Tea Tree Oil And Skin Care

Spread the love

Tea Tree Oil and skin care go hand in hand.  This essential oil is derived from the leaves of the Australian tea tree. Tea Tree Oil has been used for thousands of years by the aboriginal people of Australia. Its antiseptic abilities helped treat wounds and ward off infections.

Tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca, is an essential oil with a fresh camphoraceous odor. It ranges in color, from a pale yellow to almost clear.

Over the past few years, essential oils have become extremely popular. Essential oils are now widely used to treat things typically only treated by traditional medicine.

Tea Tree Oil And Skin Care

Tea Tree Oil has been scientifically studied for years. There are over 600 studies tied to Tea Tree Oil. Australian chemist, Arthur Penfold, discovered its antimicrobial abilities in 1920.  The chemicals in tea tree oils, are known to kill bacteria, fungus, and to reduce allergic skin reactions.

Tea tree oil is typically considered safe for most people when used on the skin.  It can cause skin irritation and swelling in some users, so please be cautious.  When used as an acne treatment, tea tree oil can sometimes cause skin dryness, itching, stinging, and redness. Testing a small area to check for sensitivity is advised.

Benefits of Tea Tree Oil

Treatment of Acne

One of tea tree oil’s benefits is treating acne. Tea Tree Oil has shown to be an effective treatment for acne, working just as well as the top drugstore acne remedy, benzoyl peroxide. It is gentler to the skin than benzoyl peroxide. Always pay attention to the manufactuers instructions for usage. Tea tree essential oil needs to be diluted. A word of caution when using tea tree oil. It can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. You will want to make sure you wear a good sunscreen when going outdoors.

Wound Healing The antibacterial properties of tea tree oil make it a good choice for healing wounds. A study conducted in 2013 with 10 participants showed some amazing results.  The patients had wounds infected with Staphylococcus Aureus. The results of the study showed a decreased healing time in 9 out of the 10 of the participants treated with the tea tree oil as opposed to those patients that used conventional treatment alone.

Dry Skin  Tea tree oil is used to help soothe dry, itchy, irritated skin. It has shown to work as effectively as zinc oxide and clobetasone butyrate creams in the treatment of eczema.

Now you can see where tea tree oil and skin care go hand in hand.
